Asian Film Awards had its 13th edition today in Hong Kong, with nominees from all over Asia and winners alike. Obviously, what everyone wants to know is what movie from all five nominated for the best film won the award. Movie director Hirokazu Koreeda described Shoplifters ( Manbiki kazoku) as his “socially conscious” film, and a project he was thinking about for a couple of years. In the movie, a family of five is making it day by day with the help of shoplifting, when everything changes with the arrival of a stranger into the household. Shoplifters already brought director Hirokazu Koreeda the Palme d’Or award in May, during the 71st annual Cannes Film Festival. At the 13th Edition of Asian Film Awards, the movie received Best Film and Best Original Music award.

Best Director went to Lee Chang-dong for the South Korean psychological drama Burning, where he also produced and co-wrote. The film premiered on May 16, 2018, at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. Early in 2019, although it had not received an actual nomination, Burning made it into 91st Academy Awards’ Best Foreign Language Film final of nine-film shortlist, on February 24 and with this becoming the first Korean film to make it to the final if this category. Director Lee Chang-dong also won the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Other winners include South Korean singer-actor Kim Jae-joong for the AFA Next Generation Award, Chinese actor and model Huang Jingyu for Best Newcomer with 2018 Chinese war film Operation Red Sea.

This week has just begun and there’s already so much in the works. Fashion Week is on top of the list and is by far the most looked-after event of February, and goes further into the beginning of March when it’s all over (for a while). The shows began in New York, which is the place to be this week, literally, with both Men and Women following one after another. Fall/Winter 2019 is the phrase to talk about, and it will be for a while.
Yesterday’s Shows: Todd Snyder, Joseph Abboud, and Palomo Spain, the latter being the epitome of colorfulness and vibrancy in Men’s fashion, so far.

Front Row faces: Zachary Quinto, Johannes Huebl, Drake Bell, Cody Simpson, Neil Patrick Harris and more.

Next on our list is 69th edition of Sanremo Music Festival, officially starting today and ending on the 9th of February. Yesterday the Festival had a celebrity-infused red carpet event, with artists such as singer Arisa, Paola Turci, Enrico Nigiotti, rapper Ghemon, Einar and so many more. The contest is taking place at Teatro Ariston of Sanremo and is being broadcast by RAI.

Last, Deutsche drama ‘Club Der Roten Baender – Wie Alles Begann’ had its premiere in Cologne at the beginning of this week. The movie is set for its official release on Valentine’s day, definitely not in tune with hearts with chocolate, but the cast is young and talented and besides, who’s not into German dramas! As a plot, ‘The club of red ribbons – How it all began’ (translated) tells the story of six youngsters, each living their own story, till events bring everyone under the same roof of Albertus Hospital. Expect a lot of current societal issues such as family drama, body-image issues and so on. The end promises to be a good one.

Cast: Tim Oliver Schultz, Damian Hardung, Luise Befort, Timur Bartels, Ivo Kortlang, Nick Julius Schuck.

Gemma Arterton Wears the Perfect Pink at The 21st British Independent Film Awards

The 21st British Independent Film Awards happened December 2nd, in London, and while I had to stop and admire all these actors and actresses which I mostly know from one or two or more of the many movies I used to watch back in days when the time was plenty, my sight got caught by the gorgeous Gemma Arterton. She’s truly a beauty, but at the same time, the woman knows what fits her. I don’t ever remember seeing her not having the right hairstyle or the right clothes. For this occasion, she wore a sort of backless dress in the most adorable baby pink color. The dress has no sleeves and has a teasing touch, thanks to a generous cut on the sides, below the armpit. It then falls into a perfect pleated long skirt. The stiffness of the material creates the proper vibe, mixing the pink and cutouts into a perfect choice, red carpet worthy and Gemma Arterton perfect look. Hair is natural, feminine and seductive. Love, love.

Ocean’s 8 Movie – A Perfect Robbery at the Met Gala

Power cast type of movie is always a delicacy to be looking forward to having it, in this case, seeing it. I’m talking about Ocean’s 8, where Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathway, Mindy Roling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter are partaking in a robbery plan, as thieves and other characters. Somewhere in the movie, TV host, James Cordon makes an appearance where he’s having a sort of personal conversation with Sandra Bullock. The actress plays Danny Ocean’s estranged sister Debbie, who’s planning to build a team and make a perfect robbery at the Met Gala, imagine that. Just like in real life, the annual fashion event and Anna Wintour go hand in hand, so it is no surprise to see the famous editor making a cameo in the movie. Rihanna is yet another exciting appearance, the singer playing a sort of underground character. This movie makes a perfect addition to the singer’s professional life, with her being involved in fashion as a fashion designer and having her Fenty Beauty collection not so long launched.
The whole cast is gold. Oscar-winning actresses theme holds weight and promises for quite an experience. The movie is to be released in summer.

Julianne Moore Conducts an Impeccable Set of Fashion Appearances At Venice Film Festival

I once watched a show where somebody said about Julienne Moore that she’s getting better and better with time, fashion wise, just like a good wine. I took that as a motivation, but I wasn’t really into Julianne Moore’s history. Now I know that she’s 56 and looking great. On top of that, she’s slaying in the fashion style department. Every single time.
Recently she’s been in Venice for Venice Film Festival, together with George Clooney and Matt Damon, for their movie Sububircon. Here the actress had several appearances, and I have to say I’ve been impressed by every each one of her looks. It is almost impossible to pick one favorite, but if I would have to do it, her flowy red gown with pink seemed to work best in favor to her red hair, rosy cheeks and red lips. A second almost impossible to pick favorite would be her t-shirt embroidered dress she was wearing for the Sububircon photocall. And last but not least, I loved her fringy dress that had a sort of apron. An absolutely stunning piece of clothing.

Continuing With Best of Fashion from Venice Film Festival: Amal Clooney, Jane Fonda and More

Amal Clooney’s lilac dress talked about romance, excellent craftsmanship, and high class. On top of that, the color and silhouette help to soften up some of the harshness dark hair usually has.

Avant-garde artist Laurie Anderson was amongst the many who showed up on the red carpet ahead of “Suburbicon” screening. Her positive attitude, together with her creative sense of dressing up went very well hand in hand. And literally, the highlight of her look is every single piece that she is wearing.

There’s somebody I do not know, who showed up wearing a fancy robe on top of his suit. The bow tie is a perfect touch to the whole affair.

One of my favorite actresses, Barbora Bobulova, was in high heels and lila dress for the photocall of ‘Diva!’, and I can’t take my eyes off of her adorable look. The bangs add more of the girly vibe.

Actress Isabella Ferrari joined Bobulova in the pursuit of looking gentle and feminine, choosing a just as much loved color, which is a lovely pink of a long dress with shirt collar.

Jane Fonda looked sublime on the red carpet in her embroidered gown, for the screening of her latest movie ‘Our Souls at Night’.

Milena Mancini’s super relaxed but fashionable look that she wore for the ‘Il Contagio’ photocall has given me some inspiration for my own looks. Love her hair, the posture and all that she’s wearing.

First Glimpse of Best Fashion From Venice Film Festival

Spanish actress Lola Duenas was all a smile before the screening of her latest movie Zama, and I’m looking at her dress thinking to myself that I might’ve found the reason for her cheerfulness. Not that the actress shouldn’t be in high spirits, but the dress just might have gone through a trick. True or not, I am inclined to be in favor of her look. Next time, just rock it with more confidence, Lola Duenas!

Jury member Mark Cousins adapted the Scottish kilt to a handsome red carpet appearance, honoring its roots and looking mighty stylish while doing it.

The screening of ‘Downsizin’g happened with glitz and glam, but Rebecca Hall was the one capturing my attention. She had the look of refined elegance in her Armani beaded dress and behind ears bob.

Kristen Wiig looked stunning in her plunging neckline Zuhair Murad dress and perfect sleek hair while posing on the red carpet before the screening of ‘Downsizing’. Go girl!

Liu Yifei Plays Three Lives in Fantasy Romantic Drama ‘Once Upon a Time’

For all you lovers of Asian fantasy movies, here’s a grandiose treat to watch this August, or September, when the Chinese romantic drama ‘Once Upon A Time’ is closing the journey of releases in its last destination, Japan. Starring actors Liu Yifei and Yong Yong, the project is based on the fantasy novel ‘Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles Peach Blossoms’ (aka To The Sky Kingdom) by TangQi Gongzi.

Gorgeously shot scenes instantly grab your curiosity, enslaving you into wanting more of it. The clothes, makeup, and hairstyle of the actors are in tune with the story, but it’s the scenery and colors that make everything altogether appear so enchanting. I’m speaking of dreamy lands with gorgeous pink blossoming trees, floating islands of paradisiac beauty and yes, love.

Speaking of it, I have a feeling that this movie is going to be quite a journey into the love colors, and is not going to be always bright. Liu Yifei is great at expressing the sweetest affection and then turn your world completely upside down. She gets help from handsome Yang Yang, who is just as capable of honoring its surreal role into a surreal delivery. Popcorn anyone?

FILM

Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturica went multitasking for his latest project, and directed, wrote and took the leading role next to Italian actress Monica Bellucci in a three-part narrative Serbian movie. Yes, Bellucci is speaking Serbian in the film, and I can only receive it as a treat. As for the story, watching the trailer brought me thinking to Jim Carrey’s ‘Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events’. I doubt Emir Kusturica’s movie goes that deep into the magic, but there’s a hint of fantasy in there too, mixed with a story of love, war, and an unexpected end.

Song Joong-ki Plays Independent Fighter In ‘Battleship Island’ Film

Back in 2016, South Korean actor Song Joong-ki shined in his role of the charismatic captain Yoo Si-jin in major hit proclaimed “Descendants of The Sun” television series, for which he won Most Popular Actor and iQiyi Global Star awards at the 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards.

Not long after Descendants aired, the actor began filming for movie Battleship Island, a film that speaks about the hardships occurred in the Japanese occupation era. This movie comes as a surprise for fans, but then it is not such a big one since Song seems to do very well in heroic roles. And although the vibe is very different from its last movie work, I get the feeling that the actor will shine once again as a noble character.

The movie hasn’t got an official date release and has been sold to 113 countries according to CJ Entertainment. On June 15, South Korean actors Hwang Jung-Min, Kim Su-An, So Ji-Sub, Lee Jung-Hyun alongside Song attended the press conference for ‘The Battleship Island’ at the National Museum of Korea in Seoul. As a final say, I’m suggesting a napkin refill and then holiday recovery.
