Asian Film Awards had its 13th edition today in Hong Kong, with nominees from all over Asia and winners alike. Obviously, what everyone wants to know is what movie from all five nominated for the best film won the award. Movie director Hirokazu Koreeda described Shoplifters ( Manbiki kazoku) as his “socially conscious” film, and a project he was thinking about for a couple of years. In the movie, a family of five is making it day by day with the help of shoplifting, when everything changes with the arrival of a stranger into the household. Shoplifters already brought director Hirokazu Koreeda the Palme d’Or award in May, during the 71st annual Cannes Film Festival. At the 13th Edition of Asian Film Awards, the movie received Best Film and Best Original Music award.

Best Director went to Lee Chang-dong for the South Korean psychological drama Burning, where he also produced and co-wrote. The film premiered on May 16, 2018, at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. Early in 2019, although it had not received an actual nomination, Burning made it into 91st Academy Awards’ Best Foreign Language Film final of nine-film shortlist, on February 24 and with this becoming the first Korean film to make it to the final if this category. Director Lee Chang-dong also won the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Other winners include South Korean singer-actor Kim Jae-joong for the AFA Next Generation Award, Chinese actor and model Huang Jingyu for Best Newcomer with 2018 Chinese war film Operation Red Sea.

‘La Boda de Mi Mejor Amigo’ is a Mexican comedy remake after 1997 ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’, then played with Julian Roberts and Cameron Diaz. Back to today, director Celso R. García kept the whole script pretty close to its original and mixed with new actors, new location and a different language, we get to experience a whole new level of comedy and good vibes. Let’s not forget the amount of hotness gathered in one movie thanks to all these handsome and talented actors and actresses.
Cast: Ana Serradilla, Carlos Ferro, Natasha Dupeyrón and Miguel Ángel Silvestre.
First in the cinema: 14th February

Selected: This Week’s Events – NYFW, Sanremo Music Festival and German Drama Premiere

This week has just begun and there’s already so much in the works. Fashion Week is on top of the list and is by far the most looked-after event of February, and goes further into the beginning of March when it’s all over (for a while). The shows began in New York, which is the place to be this week, literally, with both Men and Women following one after another. Fall/Winter 2019 is the phrase to talk about, and it will be for a while.
Yesterday’s Shows: Todd Snyder, Joseph Abboud, and Palomo Spain, the latter being the epitome of colorfulness and vibrancy in Men’s fashion, so far.

Front Row faces: Zachary Quinto, Johannes Huebl, Drake Bell, Cody Simpson, Neil Patrick Harris and more.

Next on our list is 69th edition of Sanremo Music Festival, officially starting today and ending on the 9th of February. Yesterday the Festival had a celebrity-infused red carpet event, with artists such as singer Arisa, Paola Turci, Enrico Nigiotti, rapper Ghemon, Einar and so many more. The contest is taking place at Teatro Ariston of Sanremo and is being broadcast by RAI.

Last, Deutsche drama ‘Club Der Roten Baender – Wie Alles Begann’ had its premiere in Cologne at the beginning of this week. The movie is set for its official release on Valentine’s day, definitely not in tune with hearts with chocolate, but the cast is young and talented and besides, who’s not into German dramas! As a plot, ‘The club of red ribbons – How it all began’ (translated) tells the story of six youngsters, each living their own story, till events bring everyone under the same roof of Albertus Hospital. Expect a lot of current societal issues such as family drama, body-image issues and so on. The end promises to be a good one.

Cast: Tim Oliver Schultz, Damian Hardung, Luise Befort, Timur Bartels, Ivo Kortlang, Nick Julius Schuck.

December 14 -15 Celebrity Fashion

Diane Kruger took her velvet blazer dress to ACRIA’s 22nd annual holiday dinner. The actress went for an all-black outfit, topped with a single white stripe at the sleeves and on her long fabric belt. She then added more light, by carrying with her a black clutch completely studded with pearls. Love it!

Singer Lena, who not long ago made my day by attending Chanel’s Metiers D’Art fashion show, as a front row face, was seen rocking just the other day a Kim Kardashian kind of look, with black top, track pants and boots, while performing live on stage at Huxleys, in Berlin. I like this approach on her.

I’m glad seeing Kylie Minogue in a different place other than on stage (not that I’m complaining). It happened in Melbourne at the premiere of her latest project, comedy movie ‘Swinging Safari’. Her look for the event is relaxed, trendy and fresh, with a good conversation between shoes and dress.

Singer and actress Maite Peroni made a delightful appearance on the red carpet while attending the premiere of musical drama ‘The Greatest Showman’, in Mexico City. Wouldn’t call myself exactly the biggest fan of her dress, but I will pretend I’m ok with it just because I like her. Rebelde anyone?

Francia Raisa’s flared and extraordinaire pants have made my day, cause they are just cool. Love how the waist is built, love the stripes, the colors, the shape and even the length. She wore them with a cropped top, just simple one, and some pretty red strappy heels, the classic style. And that’s how it’s done.

Although I’m not into these type of showy dresses, I’m gonna go and make a second exception for today, since Brittany Snow’s dress has those playful flowers placed nicely as a cover-up of some sort. It is such an innocent element, but it does so much to this dress, so much so that I will say yes to the dress. And besides, Britanny Snow is quite the charmer. In the end, it all works together well.

London Evening Standard Theatre Awards is a Good Place to Find Your Favorite English Actors

A bunch of English actors and actresses haunted my desktop today, reminding me of the good old movies I used to watch before life got complicated. You see, I used to have a fetish for English movies, more specifically for Jane Austen’s and Agatha Christie’s tales. It is almost too much to grasp, considering that the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards happened on a very special full moon.

Speaking of actors, I swear Keira Knightly went back in time to her Pride and Prejudice character, Elizabeth Bennet. The dress is delicate, soft and feminine. Also, I’m happy to see more of this gorgeous mama at events.

I love Zoë Wanamaker so much for bringing good humor to Agatha Christie’s world of murder and mystery, in Hercule Poirot series. She’s also played once in Miss Marple. David Suchet and this lady are the heroes of my 20’s. Here she looks fancy and cozy, accompanied by her husband, actor Gawn Grainger.

Dominic Cooper is perhaps the hottest English man out there, alive and breathing. He broke my heart and Marianne’s heart (played by Charity Wakefield) in Jane Austen’s 2008 British television drama adaptation Sense and Sensibility. And he broke my heart again when he played Charles Grey in 2008 British drama film The Duchess. For the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards, he wore a navy blue suit and an almost matching tie.

And last, but not least, actress Billie Piper brought back memories from Mansfield Park by Jane Austen, which definitely is not one of my favorite adaptations from the English novelist tales, but I did love Piper’s acting and the vibe she gives. Here she looks gorgeous in her shimmery evening dress. Props for the naked shoulder and turtleneck – what an intriguing mix of elements her dress had!

Kirsten Stewart Dolls Up in Pink and It’s Wonderful

Kristen Stewart showed up in a two-piece assemble recently in LA, at the Premiere Of Starlight Studios And Refinery29’s ‘Come Swim’ at The Landmark on November 9, and I’ve fallen for it. It is such a simple look, and yet so perfect and sophisticated. The white and pink combination is a fashion approach you should try, at least once in a while. It can scoop out the softest vibe out of you, without being too much. Obviously, the pieces you wear are important. Kristen went for a cropped top, and this is her signature, and then she added a lovely pink wide-leg pair of trousers that had a ruffled waist – a trend I see happening more and more these days.

Julianne Moore Conducts an Impeccable Set of Fashion Appearances At Venice Film Festival

I once watched a show where somebody said about Julienne Moore that she’s getting better and better with time, fashion wise, just like a good wine. I took that as a motivation, but I wasn’t really into Julianne Moore’s history. Now I know that she’s 56 and looking great. On top of that, she’s slaying in the fashion style department. Every single time.
Recently she’s been in Venice for Venice Film Festival, together with George Clooney and Matt Damon, for their movie Sububircon. Here the actress had several appearances, and I have to say I’ve been impressed by every each one of her looks. It is almost impossible to pick one favorite, but if I would have to do it, her flowy red gown with pink seemed to work best in favor to her red hair, rosy cheeks and red lips. A second almost impossible to pick favorite would be her t-shirt embroidered dress she was wearing for the Sububircon photocall. And last but not least, I loved her fringy dress that had a sort of apron. An absolutely stunning piece of clothing.

Continuing With Best of Fashion from Venice Film Festival: Amal Clooney, Jane Fonda and More

Amal Clooney’s lilac dress talked about romance, excellent craftsmanship, and high class. On top of that, the color and silhouette help to soften up some of the harshness dark hair usually has.

Avant-garde artist Laurie Anderson was amongst the many who showed up on the red carpet ahead of “Suburbicon” screening. Her positive attitude, together with her creative sense of dressing up went very well hand in hand. And literally, the highlight of her look is every single piece that she is wearing.

There’s somebody I do not know, who showed up wearing a fancy robe on top of his suit. The bow tie is a perfect touch to the whole affair.

One of my favorite actresses, Barbora Bobulova, was in high heels and lila dress for the photocall of ‘Diva!’, and I can’t take my eyes off of her adorable look. The bangs add more of the girly vibe.

Embed from Getty Images

Actress Isabella Ferrari joined Bobulova in the pursuit of looking gentle and feminine, choosing a just as much loved color, which is a lovely pink of a long dress with shirt collar.

Jane Fonda looked sublime on the red carpet in her embroidered gown, for the screening of her latest movie ‘Our Souls at Night’.

Milena Mancini’s super relaxed but fashionable look that she wore for the ‘Il Contagio’ photocall has given me some inspiration for my own looks. Love her hair, the posture and all that she’s wearing.

First Glimpse of Best Fashion From Venice Film Festival

Spanish actress Lola Duenas was all a smile before the screening of her latest movie Zama, and I’m looking at her dress thinking to myself that I might’ve found the reason for her cheerfulness. Not that the actress shouldn’t be in high spirits, but the dress just might have gone through a trick. True or not, I am inclined to be in favor of her look. Next time, just rock it with more confidence, Lola Duenas!

Jury member Mark Cousins adapted the Scottish kilt to a handsome red carpet appearance, honoring its roots and looking mighty stylish while doing it.

The screening of ‘Downsizin’g happened with glitz and glam, but Rebecca Hall was the one capturing my attention. She had the look of refined elegance in her Armani beaded dress and behind ears bob.

Kristen Wiig looked stunning in her plunging neckline Zuhair Murad dress and perfect sleek hair while posing on the red carpet before the screening of ‘Downsizing’. Go girl!

Actor Mauricio Ochmann stars alongside his wife, Aislinn Derbez, in comedy movie Hazlo como Hombre (Do it Like a Man), officially set for release in Mexic on August 11. It is directed by Nicolás López, who gets mentioned together with Guillermo Amoedo at being responsible for the screenplay.

In the movie, Raúl, played by Ochmann, is a conservative and macho type of guy who’s perfect world gets completely shaken up after one of his two long time friends, Santiago, played by Alfonso Dosal, is confessing his homosexuality. The subject is still a tabu chapter to Raúl, who is devastated and wants his friend back to how he used to be. Liu Yifei Plays Three Lives in Fantasy Romantic Drama ‘Once Upon a Time’

For all you lovers of Asian fantasy movies, here’s a grandiose treat to watch this August, or September, when the Chinese romantic drama ‘Once Upon A Time’ is closing the journey of releases in its last destination, Japan. Starring actors Liu Yifei and Yong Yong, the project is based on the fantasy novel ‘Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles Peach Blossoms’ (aka To The Sky Kingdom) by TangQi Gongzi.

Gorgeously shot scenes instantly grab your curiosity, enslaving you into wanting more of it. The clothes, makeup, and hairstyle of the actors are in tune with the story, but it’s the scenery and colors that make everything altogether appear so enchanting. I’m speaking of dreamy lands with gorgeous pink blossoming trees, floating islands of paradisiac beauty and yes, love.

Speaking of it, I have a feeling that this movie is going to be quite a journey into the love colors, and is not going to be always bright. Liu Yifei is great at expressing the sweetest affection and then turn your world completely upside down. She gets help from handsome Yang Yang, who is just as capable of honoring its surreal role into a surreal delivery. Popcorn anyone?

Best Celebrity Looks From Week August 1

Freida Pinto and Olivia Palermo were among the attendees at Women’s Health and FEED’s 6th Annual Party Under the Stars on August 5, and they both looked impeccable, the reason why I’ve decided to gush a bit about their outfits. Palermo is obviously a pro in the fashion department, and for the event she chose to wear a maxi polka dots skirt that she paired with a white ruffle shirt. Her nude and gold strappy high heels sandals sealed the deal elegantly.

Freida Pinto skipped color, instead wearing a Resort 2018 white ensemble with black patterns, consisting of a maxi skirt and shirt. She finished her relaxed appearance with black strappy heeled mules.

Although extremely gorgeous, this Couture Fall 2017 gray wool jumpsuit is not the easiest piece to wear. However, for the screening of her latest movie ‘Wind River’, actress Elizabeth Olsen looked magnificent while wearing it. For the completion of her look she chose to wear black pumps, a choice that kept her look close to the image portrayed by the brand for this collection.

Harry Styles Serves Quirkiness and Style While Promoting War Film Dunkirk

Harry Styles has cut his hair for his acting debut in the role of a British Army private named Alex in the war film Dunkirk, film that is officially in theaters starting today, July 21, and took its fresh face on a tour to promote the movie. Alongside its handsome co-stars Tom Glynn-Carney, Fionn Whitehead, and Jack Lowden plus Producer Emma Thomas and Director Christopher Nolan, the first time actor made a first appearance on July 13 in London, then headed to Dunkerque, France on July 16 and in NY 18 July. Short but efficient.

Fashion wise, wait what am I saying? Firstly, who knew he has such baby blue eyes, cause to me this is news. And yes, I’m bad at tracking details at a smaller scale. Back to fashion, the singer and actor looked dashing, especially when in London and NY. The suit looks good on him, even with the quirks of his Rainbow loafer boots or the embroidered marching band pants he wore in NY. And yes, he looks way better with short hair. Way way better.

Maribel Verdú and Antonio de la Torre Co-star in Dark-Comedy Movie Abracadabra

Actress Maribel Verdú has a new movie on her sleeves that’s going to be released August 4 for which she attended a photocall in Madrid on July 17, joined by co-star Antonio de la Torre, fellow actor José Mota and director Pablo Berger, who is not only responsible for directing but writing too.

The movie, entitled Abracadabra, is a dark comedy family drama, in which massive football fan Carlos, gets an out of the blue and unrequested second chance at being present in the family life, so far completely ignored by its passion that keeps him unavailable to its house, daughter and most importantly to his wife, Carmen.

The trailer got me laughing, which is a plus, next to some other extra points, such as the context husband gets consumed by hobby and ignores family life, which is a real life inspired subject. But don’t you worry, there’s comedy shining through, which makes everything worth the care you give.
