Voin Orowu’s music is fairly new to me, yet I was on board as soon as I got my ears on one of his tracks. And here we are, not long after, talking about a new LP with ten works coming from the producer, released on Kvitnu label. ‘Etudes From a Starship’ sounds deep and alien, yet Voin Orowu is all about space sounds. He works with a synthesizer for all the sounds he’s making. ‘Decay Instability’ is the latest release from the LP, so here you have it. You welcome!
And the groove you’ve been waiting for – just in tune for entering Spring, comes from Danish band M.I.L.K. The voice behind ‘Jet Ski’ belongs to vocalist Emil Wilk, who’s singing by himself a very chill, no worries song. The track has it’s very own music video, giving a glimpse of the singer, who looks bohemian and artsy. He stares into your soul while you’re kind of moving to the rhythm. I must say, I’ve already had it on repeat for the most part of today, which is not a surprise, but very good news indeed.
And last but not least release comes from the one and only Parov Stelar. The Austrian extraordinaire musician is releasing music when you’re least expecting. Or it’s just me being overly busy and not keeping with the rest of the world. Thing is, the track is here. From what I’ve read on its social media, this is the very first work from an upcoming brand new album – set for release somewhere at the end of the year. Man, the wait is long but has to be worth it. Till then, we have ‘Gringo’ to keep us company. The music video is said to be the hand-made work of Parov Stelar himself, who’s been creating with more than 1600 pictures a very lively scene. I am suspecting this will not be the last time we get to see the craft, as the whole album is still in ‘hiding’.
Cro is back with new work, this time gifting us with the collaboration he did with German band KitschKrieg, in which he raps next to the extraordinaire voices of AnnenMayKantereit and Trettmann. I could not have picked a better mix of artists to create this wunderschön track ‘5 Minuten’, as KitschKrieg named the work. There comes Cro, rapping lyrics in his signature style – sensual and sleepy. Next, there’s AnnenMayKantereit with a one of a kind ”sehr süß face. When he starts singing you get electrocuted. The guy with the sweetest face has the manliest voice you probably have heard in a very long time. This is the experience of a lifetime. You’ll never feel anything like it. And then there Trettmann, known for his reggae rapping style. He’s cool and talented. On another note, I literally don’t know who to thank for such a great collaboration. Whoever came up with the idea of bringing all these voices together deserves an award. ‘5 Minuten’ ladies and gentleman!
French trio dOP is back with a new track, a sensual story of love, featuring Ukrainian artist Alina Pash, the latter also performing in the MV for this lovely release. The title kind of aligns itself with the month of love, however, I’m sure that’s not the reason dOP came with ‘Stone Love’. The sounds are steady, and a bit mysterious, keeping you guessing about what’s to come next. Did I say it is full of sensuality? I did mention it. But that’s what the band does and that’s why we love them so much. Cause it’s so lovey-dovey and modern and groovy and French.
Released: 11 January
Catz ‘n Dogz newest track “New Love” is on repeat on my laptop for maybe the fifth time, and things will be this way for a while. As the Polish duo announced on their social media, this track marks a meaningful 100 release on Pets Recordings, so of course, it’s a big deal. This is the way to celebrate. “New Love” touches every part of your being and invites you to lose yourself and dance it like when you were very young and carefree. But we all are exactly that, don’t we? This release comes with its own MV, so things look very promising.
Official release: 23 January
John Fleming aka John 00 Fleming is gathering rewards as we speak, at the same time having a fresh track on his sleeves, newly released and quite potent, if I may say so. The Dj described Looking Back. To Look Forward. as “A dance floor friendly track” with nuances from the past. Listening to the original version, I get the feeling I’m listening to a classic beat, with a perfect closing that’s slowly but surely progressing from a catching-ear start. To me, it looks like we have a hit, ladies and gentleman!
Jan Blomqvist’s latest and brand-new album is this close to becoming available and officially out. The producer announced on his social media the name and date of the release, which is being celebrated with a soon to be album tour.
He named it “Disconnected”, which goes very well with Blomqvist’s nostalgic general vibe and music style. Twelve tracks are nicely packed together into what promises to be a very good treat for fans. Or for any other electro music lover. “Maybe Not” and “Our Broken Mind Embassy” have made the jump, being the two tracks chosen to be the tease before the release. We also have a music video, which makes things so much more exciting. The album is set to be out this Friday, 5th October.
A few days ago saw on my Facebook feed a 20-meter high sculpture by hand crochet tent, created by the Brazilian artist Ernesto Net and placed inside Zurich’s main train station – little I knew about its actual purpose. As it turns out, music and architectural design mashed into one beautiful project meant to serve for a debut scene and a wonderful meeting point. For this project Nordstern Basel and Fondation Beyeler collaborated with the newly formed music band, Lost Souls of Saturn to create a special moment. Lost Souls of Saturn is a duo consisting of none other than producer Seth Troxler and Phil Moffa. The two of them are no stranger at working together, as Troxler had several collabs with the sound scientist Moffa, who is known for his ‘out of this world’ ambient works. As for Troxler, it kind of shook me into my chair. The DJ is publicly seen as being a sensual type of artist, so this comes as a big surprise. And to close this little note, the event happened on July 12th with a little over an hour long live debut. You can watch and listen to the whole set here.
Ben Böhmer is back at it with brand new masterpieces from the electronic music world, all packed nicely into an already adored and simple titled EP – “Dive”. The producer has had his first ‘Essential New Tune’ on BBC Radio 1 from ‘Morning Falls’ era, which I guess made everyone wait with much anticipation a next successful craft, which is what happened. Released 6th July 2018, the new EP has the perfect playlist to listen to keep you company whenever and wherever. “Vale” and “Dive” are two tracks the German musician has been showing off, and I do not blame him. “Vale” or “see you again” is one beautiful track, where joy and a hint of sadness come together and blend into a smooth journey. Featuring vocals of Margret, ‘Dive’ is a dreamy like experience after which the abstract ‘Sonnenallee’ follows. Even before the official release of this new EP, fans already had a taste thanks to Anjunadeep mixes – a perfect tease before the actual “out now”.
You might know by now how much French Dj Yuksek loves doing remixes, and that has been proven many times. Besides bringing to the world his own tracks in which he invests a lot of his time – his latest album took him about two years to full completion, the DJ gives his own flavor to quality tracks of various artists aligned with the vibe. Same happened today, when a new remix was released, this time on one of the tracks from Bertrand Burgalat, French producer & songwriter. This new remix hasn’t touched much from Burgalat’s style, keeping the beauty of the original track, but making it sound more modern and energized.
North is the last EP released by Finnish Dj Yotto, packed with five Finland’s rural landscape-inspired works. North is also the title of one the tracks, released to the public on October 6, when the whole album has made its way out in the world. Yotto is known for the quality of his craft, if we only mention the unprecedented five Pete Tongs’s ‘Essential New Tunes’ on BBC Radio 1.
I loved the new track and I still do. It makes for a perfect tune when you all you need is something soothing. I guess we can blame on Finland. Can we really?
Third studio album from German artist Cro keeps on proving to be with each release quite the catch if we only take a look at the tracks released to the public so far. If you have time, take a look at that and then try out his latest MV. Yes, that’s right, Cro has released a new track from album ‘Tru’ and it is called ‘todas’. The song is a collab between the German rapper and artist Wyclef Jean. Cool urban outfits and almost naked girls are part of the visuals of this new MV, giving you options. Either way, it wins you over. Me? I’m all for Cro and the fashion. And you?
Maceo Plex is awakening his Maetrik alter ego by planning on releasing new stuff in late September under, yes, Maetrik name. I’ve been dying on hearing if that’s any news of his comeback, and voila, it happened!
And of course I’ve done my Sherlock work, after which I’ve concluded the following: the new EP is appropriately named ‘Return’, and to make it even better, the artist is giving us the possibility of choosing between a vinyl or digital version. A teaser track came together with the announcement of ‘Return’, giving us a small taste of what’s yet in hiding, till 29 September, date announced by Clash Lion records, the Barcelona-based label, who’s responsible for this release.
On the ‘Cortex 11-B’ teaser track, I first stumbled on its non-poetic name, which has confused my brain cells greatly. Once I’ve got it, everything seemed better, and I obviously very much enjoyed listening to it.
I’ve been happily listening to a couple of new electronic releases this morning, which gave me enough to munch on and be well fed, musically speaking. I will not talk on each one, but about what I really liked, such as Palms Trax’s remix on FaltyDL’s ethereal piece Neeloon (Kiss). Released just last year, the original track sounds slightly exotic, but better falls into an imaginary futuristic vision. Palms Trax took it and extended the two minutes of FaltyDL’s version into an almost six minutes acid house dominated remix, with its own destiny and life.
Second track comes from Valencia based producer and artist Rafa Siles. He recently released a new track, making its debut on the SCI+TEC label, and called it Pez (the track). Just like that. You can expect fancy techno and an almost seven minutes duration of it. You can then continue the journey with a kind of continuity to the track, its second in line after Pez, Vies.
Maceo Plex showed off his magic on the first day of Flow Festival in Helsinki, Finland. He worked an almost two hours and a half set dominated by techno goodies, some being quite the vintage type. A good example is 1994 Dave Clarke’s Red 2 (Wisdom To The Wise) played just after the 2011 Acapella track Supernatural by King Britt and Firely with lyrics mastered by none other than Ursula Rucker. He then played Relax officially released by himself in 2010 under Maetrik name.
Citizen Kain – Apathy, released 2017.
Dj Skull and Ron Maney- Vision Revelations, released 2014.
Seth Troxler had a b2b session at Ultra Music Festival Miami on March 26 with none other than Jamie Jones. These two guys seem to be often in each others company during music events, and that ends up well. At Ultra Miami the set they’ve build lasted for two hours and held Troxler’s unique style of interfering with the track right when you’re about to have your ascension to another dimension, and then still get you satisfied. As for Jamie Jones, I feel like his style is more aligned with the audience and when combined with Troxler’s craft, the delivery just gets to a whole new level.
The set had a lot to offer, most tracks being the treasure type, like Sweet Light’s Trixx. The tune is from 2004 and may be uncomfortable for listening to headphones due to a patterned scratchy sound, which gets better and better as the track evolves and relaxes.
Old School from Metronomy received a well-deserved attention at the beginning of the set, and it may be or may be not worked by ID artist, but Fatima Yamaha did just as good at remixing it back in June, last year.
What I Want from DirrtyDishes and Mikah, officially released in March this year, is another track that stood out with its impressive voice and lyrics repeated on a danceable orchestration.
